how odd, i never knew parrot fish were eaten.

    great photo, by the way!

  2. libraryman says:

Thanks much for the comment everyone! I had never seen half these fish before, let alone the whole eating them issue. :)

Here come the Delete Me Group comments. Brace yourselves!

  12. Hourman says:

I like everything about thi except the very top where the color and pattern stops and we have nothing but space and a metal bar. Crop off that very top area and I’d save this in a second.

Neat shot – totally bothered that two of the parrotfish in the center of the frame are missing thier eyes though… I would never buy those fish, and am not nec, enjoying looking at them. Sometimes it is A-OK for a photog to change shot around a bit – I think this would be waay cooler if you had framed the blind guys to the edge of the shot, or moved the fishies around a bit…

  14. kirstenpdx says:

given that the shot was taken at a fishmarket that libraryman does not have proprietorship of, it seems to me that he most likely would not have the ability to move the fish around. sometimes things are photographed to document a reality, not necessarily to cause one to want something. perhaps the fish at another stand was better. who knows? for the sake of argument, maybe libraryman does know japanese and could speak to the fish mongers about creating the aesthetic you describe, but he captured what was presented to him beautifully.

  15. Bondseye says:

It’s colorful yet rather common in parts of Asia anyway. Crop needs some help, too many extraneous fish parts dangling into frame.
-delete me (for the delete me group)

  16. Graham McVicker says:

Another tough decision. I don’t think the fact that colourful fish are common in asian markets (as pointed out by bondseye) is a logical reason for a deleteme. Many pedestrian things make for great pictures when if presented in a new manner.

The little signs with in the midst of the fish are a distraction for me and I think you should crop out the grey bar from the very top. Sorry, I’m so close with this one, but the little signs push it over to the delete side. I want all fish and no signs.

The group rules state: "we only accept incredible pictures, amazing, astonishing, perfect…excellent is not enough". This was soo close to getting a saveme, from me, but the framing just held me back. I think if the picture had a more 4:3 ratio it would look significantly better. I also agree that the signs detract from the pic. You could have framed them in another part of the pic and got a stronger result.

Love the colours and the detail you captured, but to my eye could be better.

Just take a look in the Safe to see where the group rules get you.

    Epic sushi shot

  19. StefZ says:

per some comments you made on other people’s photos – I could say that I don’t like this because deleteme commentators favour black and white pictures

    but that would be mean-spirited.

It’s a decent picture with colour, shape and texture. It’s just not eye-popping that’s all. I agree with some of the earlier comments – that central tag is distracting (it looks like the subject of the photo) and the picture needs something extra to elevate it above other similar shots that just ain’t there …

Cool, but would be better if cropped.voted as "deleteme" (from Delete me! group)

Pinkish tint of ice bothers me. Voted as "deleteme" (from Delete me! group)

  22. Escape Vehicle says:

The top crop, almost there.. I know you wanted the beautiful snapper head in there but the top left corner kills it for me. Otherwise I really like this photo. I even like the pinkish ice.

I didnt think Parrotfish were edible.

  23. DaraghOwens says:

I keep live fish and dont eat fish, so immediate first thought is delete, BUT there is something about this shot I really like, so it’s a saveme. I is the fishes expression and the colours and the layout and something that I can’t put my finger on but I like it.

  24. Genista says:

Do you normally delete pictures of humans because you don’t eat human, too?

This is a lovely collection of dead colourful fish, and I keep coming back to it, unable to decide. Which probably means that I can’t find anything here that excites me enough, just dead colourful fish.

Voted deleteme9 (from Delete Me! group)

  25. Genista says:

I put deleteme9, but I think one deleteme tag is missing before Blue Tit’s saveme.
